Title: blue sky

This is the view from my room.

Feel good to see the blue sky in the morning(^^)

Today, I'd like to go to the sports centre to work out!

今日の夕食のために、フラットのすぐ隣にある輸入食材店（？）で
タイ・カレーのペーストを買ってみました。

チキンとセロリ（！）、ミニ・トマト、そしてマッシュルームを炒めたものを
カレー・ペーストで味付けするという、いたってシンプルな料理ですが、
なかなか美味しかったです(^^)

この食材店、（おそらく）インド人の方が経営しているようなのですが、
インドやパキスタン系の食材もあったりするので、
いろいろと試してみたいです！


Title: Thai curry

I bought a Thai curry paste for today's dinner at a food store which adresses imported goods. The store is located next to the building where there is my flat.

Using the paste, roasted chicken and fried celery, mini-tomato and mushroom, I made my own dinner!
The taste of the dish was quite good(^^)

The store is ran by (probably) Indian and deals with goods imported from many countries, including India and/or Pakistan.
I'd like to try other foods.

一度は書かねば・・・と思っていたので、今日はこの話題で(^^)

”エディンバラに来てから最も多く食べた野菜は？”と聞かれたら、
それは、間違いなく、セロリです(^o^)

ひと束（っていう数え方で良いのかどうかは分かりません。。）がだいたい130-140円くらいとそれほど高くはなく、健康にも良いので、スーパーに行くとついつい手にしてしまいます。

ただ、問題は、
・ひと束買うと、3-4日間はそれを食べ続けなければいけないこと
・手にセロリのにおいがついてしまうこと
です(^^;;

でも、まあ、好きなので、これからも買い続けるでしょう(^^)

写真は・・・さすがにセロリの写真を載せるのは・・・と思ったので、
夏の暑さを少しだけ思い出させてくれるこれを。
6月にローマに行ったときに街角で見かけた花です(^^)


Title: Celery

I have never had an opportunity to talk about this vegetable.

If I'm asked that "what vegetable have you had most frequently in Edinburgh?",
I have to answer "Celery"!!

As the price of one portion (?) is about 60-70pence and it is healthy, I have almost always buy it when I go to the supermarket(^^;;

The problems, however, are that I have to have it 3 or 4 days in a row and that my hands take on the flavour of celery(^^;;

Despite those problems, I'll buy it in the future because I love celery(^^)


The picture is the one which I took when I was in Rome this past June.
(As I assume that nobody wants to see a picture of celery, I put it on the blog.)
This reminds me of a very hot and dry summer.

日本の大手留学仲介業者が倒産し、留学予定の方等に多大な金銭的損失を生じさせた、というニュースを耳にしました。

留学仲介業者って、何をやってるんだろう？？

少し気になったので、調べてみました。

ある会社のHPによると、留学前のサポートとして、学校の紹介、保険の相談、
現地情報の提供等々を、現地到着後のサポートとして、空港出迎えサービス、
入学手続き代行などを行っているそうです。

素朴な疑問なのですが、”何故、仲介業者を使う必要があるの？”

個人的には、（語学が堪能な訳ではありませんが）業者を使おうと思ったことは一度もありません。

成功も失敗もすべて自己責任。

留学に限らず、すべてにおいてそうだと思うのですが・・・。


Title: Think about intermediate agents for people who want to study abroad
Content:

I hear that one of the leading intermediate agents for people who want to study abroad went bankrupt the other day and people who planed to do so suffered a significant financial loss.

What is the job of the agents?

As I don't know what they do, I checked what they do.

According to the website of one agent, they introduce schools to people who want to study abroad, consult about insurance for such people and provide them with information on a school and a country where people will study.
Also, they seem to provide services regarding payment of tuition fees etc.

My simple question is why they have to use agents.

I have never felt the need to use such agents, though I'm not good at English.

I strongly believe that we have to take full responsibility for our own actions, if we success or not.

I think that that is true for anything in our life...

このごろめっきり寒くなったこともあり、日曜日に、ショッピングにでかけてみました。
目的は、もちろん、あったかい服です！

”いろいろとやることがあるし、1時間くらいでさくっと終わらせるかな”

と思ってでかけたのですが、結局、午後がまるまるつぶれてしまいました(ToT)

日本だと、コムサとあといくつかのお店に行けば、ほしいものはすぐにみつかるのですが、ここはエディンバラ。。
Princes Streetにいくつかお店はあるものの、なかなか気に入ったものを見つけることができません。。。

たとえば、先日スーツを購入したZARAというお店は、
スタイリッシュな感じの服をそろえているものの、品質があまり良くなかったりします。
H&MやTopmanは、あまり気に入ったデザインの服がない。。
老舗デパートのJennersには、おじさん向けの服がメイン。。。

ということで、4時間くらいかけて購入したのは、Fahliというブランドのコート（ジャケット？）のみ。
価格は・・・ないしょです(^^)
日本だったら、まず買わないような価格でした(^^;;

ショッピングには、ほんとうに困っています。
ロンドンまででかける必要があるかなぁ。。


Title: Shopping

As it's getting colder and colder in Edinburgh, I went shopping on the past Sunday to buy warm clothes!

Although I wanted to buy something in one hour because I had a lot of things to do, it took about 4 hours to buy only one jacket(^^;;

It's a little bit easy to buy clothes in Japan, because I know well the shops where I can buy what I really want. However, now I'm in Edinburgh.
There are some shops on the Princes Street, but I couldn't find good shops.

For example, there are some stylish clothes at ZARA where I bouught a suits the other day, but the quality of them are not so good.
I cannot find good clothes at H&M and Topman.
The main target of Jenners, the most traditional department store in Edinburgh, is middle-aged people...

After four hours searching, finally, I bought a jacket of Fahli.
That's very expensive!!
Probably, I don't buy such an expensive one in Japan...

Now I'm wondering whether I have to go to London to buy clothes(^^;;

今日のエディンバラは、昨日とはうってかわって、素晴らしい青空がひろがっています(^^)
どこかに遠出ができたらなぁ・・・と思うのですが、そういう訳にはいきません、残念ながら(^^;;

授業が始まって2週間がすぎました。
これまでの様子をまとめてみると、こんな感じ↓です。

○Accounting
・貸借対照表、損益計算書及びキャッシュフロー計算書の仕組みについて学ぶ。
・先生の説明（というか英語）は分かりやすいので安心。

○Macroeconomics
・需要と供給、国民所得について学ぶ。
・経済学はそれほど得意ではないのですが、まあ何とかなっているかな、今のところ。。

○Operations Management
・何をやろうとしているのか、正直なところ、よくわかりません。。。
・経験や実務の蓄積を無理やり理論づけて難しくしてるような気がして、テキストを読んでいても退屈してしまいます(^^;;

○Organisation Behaviour
・経営心理学とでもいうのでしょうか。モチベーションがどう形成されるかとかについて学んでいます。

○Business Ethics
・偉大な哲学者（孔子や孟子といった人たち）の思想を学ぶことを通じて、企業倫理のあり方を問う、というようなことをやっています。

○Statistics
・統計学を基礎から勉強しています。分散や標準偏差について学びました。
・大学時代に統計学の授業にはほとんど出ていなかった（初回と試験だけは出席した気がしますが。。）ため、得意な科目ではありません。。

○Finance
・今週から始まる予定です。

その他、以下のようなものもあります。（時間外に行われるため、出席は任意です。）

○Guest speaker sessions
・外部の著名な方などをゲスト・スピーカーとして招き、話を聞く、というもの。
・今までで一番おもしろかったのは、年金会計のあり方についての講義でした。

○起業家クラブ
・起業を考えている学生がプレゼンを行ったり、外部から人を招いて、起業についての講演（？）を行ったり、という活動を行っています。
・初回に参加してみましたが、うーん・・・という感じでした(^^;;


講義の内容は、大学の経済学部レベルといった感じでしょうか。
なので、日本語で講義をやってもらえれば、理解に苦しむことはないはずです、たぶん。
問題は・・・やっぱり英語です。。。


Title: Two weeks have passed

It's a very good weather today in Edinburgh.
I hope to go somewhere on such a fine day, but, unfortunately, it'll be impossible for me to do so...

Two weeks have passed since the course started.
I did the following things for the past two weeks.

<accounting>
- Study about B/S, P/L and a cashflow statement.
- Probably, I don't have any problem on this subject because the teacher's explanation (English?) is easy to understand.

<macroeconomics>
- I learned about Demand, Supply and National income.
- To tell the truth, I'm not good at Macroeconomics. But, I'm fine with it at present.

<operations management>
- I have no idea on what the lecturer wants to do and explain...
- I feel that this subject forces to explain experiences and practices in a logical way. I think that it's not necessary for things to be much difficult to understand.

<organisational behaviour>
- This is like a business psychology. I'm studying the way how, e.g., motivations are formed.

<business ethics>
- We're trying to assess whether corporate ethics are good enough or not based on ancient philosophers' views such as Confucius or Mencius.

<statistics>
- We're studying the basis of statistics like variance and/or standard deviation.
- As I didn't take the statistics class seriously in my undergraduate, I'm not good at statistics!

<finance>
- The class will start this week.

Other than those above, we have the following classes.

<guest sessions speakers>
- The school invites famous persons and they have lectures.
- The most interesting class I had is on the pension accounting.

<entrepreneureship club>
- People who wants to establish his/her own business make pitches in the session.


The level of classes are not so high for me, because they are at the level of undergraduate school.
However, the problem for me is English!!
I cannot understand what lecturers/students talk about(ToT)

10月に入って、エディンバラはめっきりと寒くなりました。
東京の冬とほとんど変わらない気がします(^^;;

急激な気温の変化のせいか、かぜのひき始めのような感じがします。。
お酒を飲むのは好きなのですが、過去の経験から、体調を崩すと長引くことが分かっているので、土曜日のパブ・ナイト(^^)も早々に切り上げて帰宅しました(^^;;

最近、やってみたいなと思ってること。

一つは、ライヴ（ロック系とクラシック系とジャズ系）に行くこと。
ここエディンバラでは、特にロック系のライヴはあまりないような気がします。

そして、ジムに行くこと。
ヨガ教室に通ってみようかなとも思っています。

ショッピングも必須です。服を買わないと、寒さに対応できません。。

あと、映画も見てみたいなぁ。何をやってるのかは知らないけど(^^;;

Arthur's Seatにも登ろうと思っています。
Arthur's Seatには、これまで、7月、8月、そして9月と、偶然にも毎月のぼっています。

あそこから見る景色は、エディンバラの景色の中でもお気に入りの一つです。

10月のエディンバラの空は、どんな色をしてるんだろう。
（ちなみに、写真は9月のものです。）


Title: October came

These days, it's getting colder day by day in Edinburgh.
It's like winter in Tokyo(^^;;

I feel like onset of a cold. This may be due to the drastic change of climate..
Although loving drinking, I came home early tonight in the middle of the "Saturday pub night", because I know that it takes a long long time to recover from my cold if I have.

There are some things which I'd like to do.

First of all, I'd like to go to live concert of rock music, classical music and jazz.
I feel that there are not so many rock concert here in Edinburgh.

And, working out.
If possible, I'd like to join in the yoga class held outside the sports centre.

I have to get clothes to survive cold seasons!!

It may be good to go to see movies, though I don't know what programme is on now.

In addition, I'd like to go to the top of the Arthur's Seat, which is one of my favorite places in Edinburgh.
I went there three times, i.e. in July, August and September.

I look forward to see the colour of the sky of Edinburgh from the top of the Arthur's Seat this month.

米国下院で、先ほど、緊急経済安定化法が可決されたそうです。
とりあえずは、ひと安心、と言ったところでしょうか(^^)

ところで、先日、英国はエディンバラにて、”初Amazon”をやってみました(^^)
いや、ただ、Amazon.co.ukでショッピングをしただけなんですけどね(^^;;

これが、ひじょうに便利です！

配達時に不在の場合、郵便局まで取りに行かないといけないのですが、
・郵便局がフラットから近い（歩いて5分くらい）！
・朝6時から（昼12時まで）窓口が開いているので、学校に行く前に受け取りに行ける！！
・受け取り時に身分証明証が不要！！！（これで良いのかという気もしますが。。）
ということで、スムーズに受け取ることができるからです。

今回購入したのは、以前から購入をためらっていた本です。
書店で購入すると50ポンド（約1万円）くらいするのですが、Amazonでは45ポンド（約9000円）と若干安いので、思い切って買ってみました。

これから、Amazonでの買い物が増えそうです(^^;;


Title: First-time Amazon (~~)

A few hours ago, the Emergency Economic Stability Act was passed by the House of Representatives.
Eventually, we can breath again (for an instant).

By the way, I bought a book through the Amazon.co.uk the other day!
That was the first time I used Amazon in the UK.

Very convenient!!

Although I have to collect the goods which was delivered when I was out,
- the post office is very close to my flat (5-minute walk)!
- the post office opens from 6am (to 12am), so I can collect it before going to school!!
- no ID is required when I collect it!!!

The good which I bought is a book which I had hesitated to purchase for a long time because it's very expensive. (Please see picture.)
The price is about 50 pounds, but I can get it at about 45 pounds through Amazon. That's why I bought it through Amazon.

The expected problem, however, is that I will buy a lot of things through Amazon from now on(^^;;

昨日のエディンバラの最高気温は10度だったそうです！
今日は、もう少し寒かったかも。。

明日の予報は8度です(ToT)
